Mrs. Karen Franks

I am so happy to be in my 5th year in Lexington City Schools! I am the music specialist at Southwest Elementary Global Academy, and one of three music specialists at South Lexington Elementary. Music is an important part of my life! I play flute, saxophone, violin, and a bit of several other instruments. I have performed with the Salisbury Symphony, Salisbury Swing Band, Concert Choir Inc, and several off-Broadway musicals around the community. Currently, you can find me in performances with The Lake Norman Orchestra and sometimes with Lexington Youth Theater.

I am a member of the elementary board of the NC Music Educators Association, and will serve music educators across the state in this role! In addition, I serve on the NCMEA Inclusion Vision for Music Educators committee.

I hold a Master's Degree in Music Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Concord University. I have taught all levels of music instruction, from 2-year-olds through adult students and have been teaching elementary music since 2009.
