Parents and Visitor
Due to safety concerns, parents or guardians, visitors, and volunteers are required to check in through the Main Office where they will sign in and be given a visitor tag to wear while on campus. Teachers will be notified prior to visitors being allowed to proceed to the classroom.
In order to leave school during the school day, a student must bring a note to the teacher requesting dismissal. The note should state:
a. Reason for dismissal
b. Name of person authorized to sign student out
c. Parent's phone number
d. Date and time of dismissal
e. Signature
A photo ID will be required to sign a student out of school. This is for your child's protection. If the student returns to school during the day, the adult is asked to accompany the student to the office and sign the student back in. Students will not be released to anyone other than a parent or guardian without written permission from parents.
Students who need to leave the campus during the school day for a dental, doctor, or other appointment will be signed out by the parent or guardian through the Main Office. No student will be allowed to leave the campus for any other reason. For the safety of the student, no student is to be removed from class without the teacher's prior knowledge.
Policy Change: Students are considered absent if they are removed from school at any time during the school day. When a child has a doctor's appointment, he or she will need to bring in a note from the doctor stating that, the student was seen by that doctor that day. If a note is not provided the absence will be considered unexcused. These days are counted in the attendance policy. (16 or more days of absences could result in a child failing the grade and being retained.
-
Arrival and Dismissal
Students are not to arrive at school before 7:00 a.m. each morning and must be picked up no later than 2:45 p.m. Supervision is not provided for students who are on campus before 7:00 a.m. or after 2:45 p.m. Upon arrival, students go directly to the cafeteria to eat breakfast and are then dismissed to the classrooms. Any student who is not in their classroom by 7:30 will be marked tardy.
Tardy Policy: If a child is tardy, it will be counted either excused or unexcused. A child is considered tardy if they are not in their classroom when the 7:30 bell rings. Five tardies will be counted as one day absent. (see the in-depth description of the policy in the Student/Parent Handbook)
At the beginning of the school year, please discuss with your child's teacher how you expect them to get home. If there is a change in your standard routine, please send a note to your child's teacher. If no note is sent, the child will be sent home his/her regular way. Students will not be permitted to use school phones to find out how they are to get home from school.
-
Withdrawal from School
Parents must notify the Main Office IMMEDIATELY when a student is to be withdrawn from Charles England Intermediate School. Textbooks and library books need to be returned to the school prior to withdrawal. Your notification to the Main Office that your child will be withdrawing will enable us to complete school records and provide you with necessary documentation for entry into his/her next school.
-
Bus Transportation
Students will ride the bus to which they have been assigned and should be outside waiting for the bus in the morning before the expected arrival time. Students will be dropped off at that same stop. Students will not be allowed to ride another student's bus. Private transportation must be provided for after school visits. At school, buses load and unload in the back lot by the cafeteria. Unless the teacher receives a note, or the Main Office is notified of the change prior to 1:30 p.m., the child will ride the bus home as usual.
Students are expected to behave on the bus according to the standards that apply in the classroom. (See the Parent-Student Handbook)
-
Car Riders
Parents are asked to wait in line in the front of the school in the circle area at the Main entrance when dropping off and picking up students. Please do not allow students to get out of your car before you are first in line. Parents should not drop off students in the path of moving vehicles. Do not drop your children anywhere other than the designated area on the side of the building. In the afternoon, car riders can be picked up Please talk with your child about these procedures that have been designed for obvious safety reasons.
-
Use of the Telephone
Students will not be permitted to make phone calls. In emergency situations, the secretary will make the necessary phone call to the parent or guardian. Calls for arrangements such as weather related issues, clubs, after school activities, forgotten homework, other forgotten items, or after-school transportation are not considered emergencies.
-
Volunteers
One of the best ways for parents and interested citizens to become involved in the school is through volunteering. It would be very difficult for CEES to operate without its devoted and dedicated volunteers who work so diligently assisting in the classroom, tutoring, working in the Media Center, helping at the Book Fair, planning special activities at holiday time, and assisting with other special events during the school year. Those who are interested in signing up to volunteer should contact your child's teacher or sign up in the Main Office. We will be recruiting volunteers and hope many of you will join us during this exciting school year.
-
Bicycles
Fourth and fifth graders may ride their bikes to school and park in the designated area. This is a privilege, and if abused, the right to ride a bike may be taken away. It is recommended that bikes be locked during school hours. By law, children riding bikes are required to wear a bike helmet. Bikes are not to be ridden on sidewalks at any time.
-
Cubbies
All students will have a cubby inside their classroom to store their books, coats, & other personal items.
-
Attendance
Perfect attendance is earned by a student who is neither tardy nor absent for the entire year. "Superior Attendance" is earned by a student having no absences and five or less tardies in the entire year.
-
Student Insurance
An insurance program is available at a nominal fee for all students. If you need to purchase school insurance, please call the Main Office to request this form.
-
Personal Data
Please notify the Main Office immediately if you have changed your address, home, work, or emergency phone numbers. The school records need to be kept up-to-date. In case of an emergency, we MUST have a current phone number so you can be contacted immediately. A note or a phone call from you will enable us to update our school records.
