Lexington City Schools is committed to creating a collaborative community of empowered, motivated, and engaged learners through the equitable access to technology. The laptop program is intended to immerse our students in a technology-rich instructional environment that will help to ensure that our graduates are prepared for the future. Understanding and adhering to the following policies and procedures is necessary for the success of the laptop program. Students are responsible for the laptops when in their possession.

General Care of Laptop
- Always close the lid before moving your laptop.
- For prolonged periods of inactivity, you should shut down the laptop completely before closing the lid to preserve battery life.
- Laptops should not be removed from the classroom unless directed by the teacher. When using the laptop, keep it on a flat, solid surface so that air can circulate and the laptop does not get damaged.
- Liquids, food and other debris can damage the laptop. You should avoid eating or drinking while using the laptop. DO NOT keep food, food wrappers, or drink containers in the laptop bag.
- Take extreme caution with the screen. The screens are very susceptible to damage from the excessive pressure or weight. In particular, avoid picking up the laptop by the screen or placing your finger directly on the screen with any force.
- Never attempt to repair or reconfigure the laptop on your own. Under no circumstances are you to attempt to open or tamper with the internal components of the laptop. You should not attempt to remove any screws. Doing so will render the warranty void.
- Take care when inserting cords, cables, and other removable storage devices to avoid damage to the laptop parts.
- Each laptop has several identifying labels. Under no circumstances are you to modify or destroy these labels.
- Do not write, draw, paint, or place any stickers/labels on your laptop. The laptops are property of Lexington City Schools.
- Never leave your loaned laptop unattended or unsecured. Laptops should be secured in a designated storage facility or a secured locker.
- During after-school activities, you are still expected to maintain the security of a loaned laptop. Unsupervised laptops will be confiscated by staff and disciplinary actions may be taken.
