Dr. Jessica Harris Monroe

Welcome to your English class here at Lexington Senior High School!

I am proud to be a native of North Carolina and a graduate of Winston-Salem State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English for grades 9-12. I also hold a Master’s degree in Education, focusing on English, Language, and Literacy (Reading K-12) from Salem College, as well as a Master’s in School Administration and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University.

For the past 13 years, I have dedicated myself to teaching in North Carolina, and I am excited to begin my seventh year at Lexington Senior High School. In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, shopping, and discovering new information!

The classroom community we create and the literature we explore together will leave a lasting impression on your life. You will find many lessons, resources, and materials available on Canvas. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions or for assistance; I’m here to help! You can email me at: jmonroe@lexcs.org.

Throughout the semester, you will:

  • Connect with the literature we study and share your insights through writing.
  • Participate in activities that focus on grammar, writing, and editing skills.
  • Enjoy films and video clips that deepen our understanding of the material.
  • Prepare for the ACT and final exams by practicing vocabulary and reading comprehension.
  • Explore different perspectives by considering the viewpoints of authors and characters.
  • Encounter many of the same texts that you will study in college or university after graduating from LSHS.
